Therefore, to ensure that the finished biodiesel fuel does not contain excessive amounts of soap that can be detrimental to the equipment, it is a wise decision to test washed biodiesel for soap content.

Ill-effects of Soap: Soap may cause plugging of the fuel filters and injectors. Moreover, it can leave behind fine ash as it burns alongside fuel. Over time that results in residue build up, thus causing damage to your equipment. In order to pass the ASTM standards, soap in biodiesel fuel should remain less than 60 ppm.

For Dry Wash Towers: If you are using Ion Exchange Columns for dry washing your biodiesel fuel, use soap titration to test Rinse Methanol used in flushing ion exchange resin, to ensure that particulates have been removed.
